April 2026: Happy Community College Month!

April 14, 2026

This month, the U.S. Departments of Education and Labor proclaimed April 2026 as National Community College Month. With the executive branch making this declaration, it is now the legislative branch’s turn.

Deadline: Monday, April 20th! Let’s remind our lawmakers to join their colleagues in celebrating April as Community College Month by co-sponsoring the bipartisan resolution. This support serves as a signal nationwide that more than 1,000 community colleges are consistently punching above their weight and generating economic success for their communities through education and workforce development.

Relatedly, the Congressional Community College Caucus is recruiting Members of Congress to raise awareness about the unique role these institutions play in the American educational system, as well as provide a forum for Members to identify and discuss issues affecting community colleges. Congressmen Gus Bilirakis (R-FL-12) and Joe Courtney (D-CT-02) are inviting their colleagues to join the bi-partisan Community College Caucus for the 119th Congress. Ask your member of Congress to contact Carolyn Olortegui in the office of Rep. Courtney (carolyn.olortegui@mail.house.gov) or Tyler Zidlicky in the office of Rep. Bilirakis (tyler.zidlicky@mail.house.gov) to join.

Below are the details for Representatives and Senators to cosponsor their respective Community College Month resolutions.

Co-sponsor Request:

Dear Colleague,
Please join me as an original cosponsor of a “Resolution recognizing the significance of “Community College Month” in April as a celebration of more than 1,000 institutions throughout the United States supporting access to higher education, workforce training, and more broadly sustaining and advancing the nation’s economic prosperity”.
Community colleges are essential to providing students with affordable access to workforce training and higher education. They work with community partners and local industry to design academic and workforce training programs that meet the specific needs of local employers.  Today 1,024 community colleges serve 10.5 million credit and noncredit students across the country. Celebrating “Community
College Month” in April is an opportunity to recognize the value of institutions that have long supported American prosperity and competitiveness and community vitality and that will be important to the nation’s economic future. I invite you to recognize the significance of “Community College Month” and join us in introducing this resolution.
The text of the resolution is copied below. Please email carolyn.olortegui@mail.house.gov or tyler.zidlicky@mail.house.gov to join as an original cosponsor.
Sincerely,
